STATEMENT ON TRUMP ADMINISTRATION’S ELIMINATION OF OBAMACARE PAYMENTS
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Kevin Cramer issued the following statement after the Trump Administration announced it would end illegal Obamacare payments being made to private insurers:
“Last night’s action by the Trump Administration is a victory for separation of powers. Only Congress has the authority to appropriate money, which is why a federal court last year struck down the Obama Administration’s unilateral decision to issue unlawful payments to private insurers. With the future of Obamacare payments back in the hands of Congress, it’s time to negotiate a better deal. Any appropriations to maintain funding for cost sharing reduction payments should be tied to meaningful health policy reform that provides more flexibility for states and better care for the American people.”
Cramer serves on the House Energy and Commerce committee, which has primary jurisdiction over federal health issues. Through his work on the Oversight and Investigation Subcommittee during the 114th Congress, Cramer investigated the illegal payments being made by the Obama Administration.
