Cramer Encourages Corn Growers to Host Genomics Center at NDSU
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Congressman Kevin Cramer encouraged the National Corn Growers Association to host its National Agricultural Genomics Center on the campus of North Dakota State University. The Association is seeking site selection bids for the newly formed center, which will conduct research to improve plant health, pest and weed resistance, nutrient and water efficiency, and cold tolerance. Cramer signed a letter along with Senators John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp citing the crop diversity in North Dakota and the sophisticated greenhouse facilities at NDSU as reasons to locate the facility there.
“North Dakota has the most diverse crop mix of any state in the nation with 42 crops as well as diverse livestock and apiary industries. North Dakota State University is also home to 14 public crop breeding programs and hosts a new BIO Level Security 3 greenhouse that was the vision of farmers and legislative leaders in our region. This diversity would be a great benefit to your new center,” wrote the delegation.
