CONFIRMED: FEMA Approves Drayton Levee Indefinitely
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Kevin Cramer issued the following statement after an official with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced in a letter today that the City of Drayton may keep their earthen levee indefinitely.
“I’m glad to see the Drayton community receive confirmation that they can keep their levee. Anyone living in the Red River Valley knows that seasonal flooding is the biggest disaster threat our communities face. In Drayton’s case, while not a certified levee, it is one of the only pieces of flood protection available to them. Today’s determination gives Drayton certainty and financial relief from having to remove this levee, and I appreciate the hard work on behalf of local, state, and federal leaders to get this done.”
Cramer supported a federal funding bill earlier this month, which included a provision allowing the City of Drayton to keep its levee permanently.
