Co-Chairman Cramer Hosts Northern Border Caucus Panel on Regulatory Reforms
Washington, D.C. – Today Representatives Kevin Cramer and Bill Owens (D-NY), co-chairmen of the Northern Border Caucus, hosted a panel discussion on the regulatory challenges facing shipping and trucking industries and solutions as they relate to North American cross-border trade. Dave Britton, President of Britton Transport, Inc. in Grand Forks, was a featured expert on the three-person panel which also included Adam Salerno, a Senior Director at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Amgad Shehata, Vice President for UPS International Public Affairs.
“Our relationship with Canada is second to none, and it is important we demonstrate this with the right policies for our citizens and business owners. In addition to trading with each other, there are tremendous opportunities trading together as a united North American continent beyond the oceans,” said Congressman Cramer.
“With a few minor modifications, for instance allowing foreign drivers to reposition empty trailers, we can provide additional services and operate more efficiently. It can be done and Canadian officials are prepared to reciprocate,” said Dave Britton, President of Britton Transport, Inc.
The Northern Border Caucus, which brings together House Members from states along the Canadian border, is co-chaired by Congressman Kevin Cramer (R-ND) and Congressman Bill Owens (D-NY). Today’s discussion was the third meeting of the Caucus. Meetings earlier this year focused on streamlining trade security, the proposed border fee for land crossings including those shared with Canada, and energy development including the Keystone XL pipeline.
