WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Kevin Cramer issued the following statement today after the Senate confirmed Neil Gorsuch to be Associate Justice for the United States Supreme Court:
“Neil Gorsuch – a man devoted to the Constitution and the rule of law – has a legal background unparalleled by most, and integrity respected by all. Backed by esteemed legal scholars from all political spectrums, he is a jurist above partisan politics – and was undeserving of the political indictments made by Senate Democrats who filibustered the nomination of a Supreme Court Justice nominee for the first time in half a century.
Without question, Majority Leader McConnell gave Senate Democrats every opportunity to break ranks with Minority Leader Schumer in order to give Gorsuch an up-or-down vote under the Senate’s customary 60-vote threshold for Supreme Court nominees. But unfortunately, even Senate Democrats who issued a half-throated vote for Gorsuch in the end, refused to vote with the Majority to invoke the so-called ‘nuclear option’ – a display of solidarity meant to appease the Warren/Sanders faction of the Democrat party.
I applaud the confirmation of Justice Gorsuch and thank the Senate majority for their willingness to rise above Democrat politics in order to do what’s right for North Dakota and the United States of America.”
