Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Bud Cramer (Ala.-05) announced today that the House Appropriations Committee approved the Fiscal Year 2008 Military Construction Appropriations Bill. Representative Cramer, a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, said the bill reported out of Committee fully funds BRAC for FY 2008.
Included in the Committee’s bill was $8.2 billion for the implementation of the Base Realignment and Closure Commission’s (BRAC) 2005 recommendations. This meets the Administration’s request for BRAC.
“North Alabama is set to gain thousands of new jobs and critical defense responsibilities as a result of BRAC,” said Cramer. “This bill puts in place much needed funding to help communities like ours continue to prepare for the influx of new defense workers.”
Representative Cramer has been a member of the House Appropriations Committee since 1998. It is one of four exclusive committees in the U.S. House of Representatives, and is responsible for providing funds for all areas of the federal government as well as vital programs that help meet the needs of the nation.
The Fiscal Year 2008 Military Construction Appropriations Bill now moves to the full House of Representatives for consideration.
