Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Bud Cramer (Ala.-05) announced that the House approved on Tuesday the conference report for the Fiscal Year 2008 Military Construction and Veterans’ Affairs Appropriations bill.
Representative Cramer, a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, said the bill provides $8.4 billion for the Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC) implementation. The bill also appropriates $21.5 billion for military construction and family housing projects throughout the military.
“This summer, SMDC became the first command to officially move to Redstone as a result of BRAC,” said Cramer. “This move begins to make BRAC recommendations for North Alabama a reality. The funding in this report will support the implementation of BRAC in North Alabama and across the country and go a long way in ensuring that Redstone and other installations have the resources and support they need to prepare for an influx of new defense workers.”
The Fiscal Year 2008 Military Construction and Veterans’ Affairs Appropriations conference agreement was included as part of the conference agreement for the FY 2008 Labor-HHS Appropriations bill. Tuesday’s action clears the conference agreement for Senate consideration.
