Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Bud Cramer (Ala.-05) announced that the House approved on Tuesday the conference report for the Fiscal Year 2008 Military Construction and Veterans’ Affairs Appropriations bill.
Representative Cramer, a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, said he included $2 million in Tuesday’s conference agreement for the construction of a new Child Development Center at Redstone Arsenal. This Center will serve children ages six weeks through five years old in a 5,600 square foot facility with two playgrounds adjacent to the facility. The Child Development Center will complement the School Age Services (SAS) Facility, which serves children between the ages of six and ten. Representative Cramer secured funding for this facility in 2005.
Cramer said, “I applaud Redstone for its efforts to ensure working families have a dependable and caring place where they can confidently leave their children during business hours.”
Representative Cramer also announced that the FY 2008 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations conference report includes $20 million for construction of a Systems Software Engineering Annex at Redstone. Cramer worked with Alabama Senator Richard Shelby, who played a lead role in securing this funding in this year’s final report.
The Fiscal Year 2008 Military Construction and Veterans’ Affairs Appropriations conference agreement was included as part of the conference agreement for the FY 2008 Labor-HHS Appropriations bill. Tuesday’s action clears the conference agreement for Senate consideration.
