Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Bud Cramer (D-Ala.) made the following statement after Thursday's actions by the Base Realignment and Closure Commission regarding Redstone.
Today, the BRAC Commissioners approved plans to relocate the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC), and a significant part of the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) to Redstone. This decision is in addition to yesterday's votes to relocate the U.S. Army Materiel Command (AMC), United States Army Security Assistance Command (USASAC), and the Aviation Technical Test Center (ATTC) to Redstone.
"Today's votes mark a proud and historic day for Redstone and for all of us in North Alabama. I am pleased that the hard work by our community has paid off. North Alabama presented an excellent proposal highlighting Redstone's strengths and the daily contributions people working there make to our national security. I am delighted that the BRAC Commission agreed and endorsed the recommendations made by the Department of Defense."
"I want to congratulate Joe Ritch and the entire Tennessee Valley BRAC team on their tireless work over the past few years and look forward to continuing our work together as we welcome our new friends and these outstanding new commands to North Alabama."
