Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Bud Cramer (D-Ala.) announced today that Boeing will transfer 100 jobs from its Expendable Launch System business in Huntington Beach, California to the Decatur plant.
This decision will strengthen the Delta Rocket manufacturing operations in Alabama by centralizing all Delta manufacturing operations in Decatur.
"I am very excited about this announcement for the good folks at the Decatur Boeing plant and for the entire North Alabama region," says Cramer. "I have always said that North Alabama is one of the best places to do business and raise a family and I spend a great deal of time making sure others from around the country are aware of the opportunities in North Alabama. Today's announcement from Boeing is proof of their commitment to the area. I am very pleased that we were able to work together to bring these jobs to Decatur and I want to be one of the first to welcome these new employees."
Cramer added, "The Decatur plant has played an essential role in the Delta program and ensuring our nation's access to space and I am proud of Alabama's renewed and expanded role."
Cramer was influential in the Boeing Company's decision to build a $450 million rocket plant in Decatur. Boeing announced plans to build the Decatur facility in 1997 and dedicated the first Delta IV rocket in October of 2000. In February of 2003 Boeing announced plans to move the Delta operations from Pueblo, Colorado. Cramer will meet with Boeing and other economic development officials on Monday to discus this increase in Boeing's Decatur workforce.
