From the beginning of my service in Congress, I have worked hard to reduce our tax burden. I believe that providing tax relief for the hard-working families of my North Alabama district allows us to make our economy stronger. As a founding member and past Chairman of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of 47 fiscally conservative Democrats, I have been a strong proponent of serious tax reform during my time in Congress.
I have been a champion for tax reform, fighting to simplify and to remove unfair provisions from the tax code. I have supported legislation that has reduced marginal rates, eliminated the marriage penalty, extended the 10 percent tax bracket, and doubled the child tax credit. I have also voted for legislation that has provided tax relief for American businesses to help them remain competitive in the global marketplace.
One tax I find most offensive is the "death tax". I have consistently supported a permanent repeal of this tax and have introduced original legislation to end this unfair penalty. I also founded the End-the-Death Tax Congressional Caucus to encourage other Members to follow in my footsteps. Families should not be forced to deal with this burdensome tax at such trying times.
