BUD ON THE ISSUES - HOMELAND SECURITY

Homeland Security:

The tragic attacks of September 11, 2001 led to the creation of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). There are many legacy agencies now within DHS that have provided important services, such as disaster relief and first responder preparedness, for years.  Congress must provide proper funding and thorough oversight to ensure that the American people will be well served by this new department.

I am working to make sure that Alabama first responders get the support they need to protect Alabamians from terror and natural disaster. Our local first responders need to have adequate funding to support their work on the frontline of the implementation of homeland security, but also need flexibility to use the funds in order to meet the unique community needs. In Washington, I am working to ensure that Alabama's first responders get their fair share of important homeland security funds.
