A TYPICAL WEEK

Members of the House of Representatives vote on important issues, but that is not all they do to serve their constituents.  Following is a typical week for Representative Bud Cramer. While this is not an actual schedule, it indicates a typical week for Representative Cramer.

 


Monday: (North Alabama & Washington, D.C.)

 

10:00 a.m.: Joins state, local, and military officials for groundbreaking of new building at Redstone Arsenal.

 

11:30 a.m.: Luncheon with North Alabama Young Farmers Association.

1:40 p.m. (c) - 4:30 p.m. (e):  Flight from Huntsville to Washington, D.C.


2:00 p.m.:  House convenes for legislative business.

5:30 p.m.:  Phone call with Governor and state economic development officials.

 

6:30 p.m. House holds recorded votes on three "Suspension Bills."

Tuesday: (Washington, D.C.)

 

9:00 a.m.: Breakfast briefing regarding the pernament repeal of the Estate or Death Tax.

10:00 a.m.:  House meets for legislative business.  Begins debate on Small Business Tax Relief legislation.

 

10:00 a.m.: Defense Appropriations Subcommittee hearing with Secretary of Defense on the DoD Budget.

12:30 p.m.: House holds recorded vote on final passage of Small Business Tax Relief legislation.  Begins debate on Social Security Protection legislation.

1:15 p.m.: Meeting with teachers from North Alabama in Representative Cramer's office regarding education appropriations.

1:30 p.m.: Vote on final passage of Social Security Protection legislation.  Begin Debate on Student Loans Reimbursement legislation.

 

2:00 p.m.: Closed Intelligence Committee hearing on international terror threats.

 

4:30 p.m.: Picture with New Hope Middle School.

5:00 p.m.: Weekly meeting with members of the Blue Dog Coalition.

6:00 p.m.: Last vote of the day on final passage of the Student Loans Reimbursement legislation.

7:30 p.m.: Dinner with North Alabama delegates of the National League of Cities.

Wednesday: (Washington, D.C.)

 

8:00 a.m.:  Breakfast with members of the Blue Dog Coalition to discuss fiscal responsibility initiatives.

10:00 a.m.: House meets for legislative business for the day.  Begins debate on Defense Authorization Bill.

10:00 a.m.:  Meeting with doctors from North Alabama in Representative Cramer's office regarding healthcare issues.

11:15 a.m.: Gives remarks on the House floor against an amendment to cut funding from the Missile Defense program.

11:45 a.m.: House holds recorded vote to defeat amendment to cut funding from Missile Defense program by voice vote.

 

12:00 p.m.: Monthly Alabama Delegation Luncheon.

1:15 p.m.:  Participates in news conference announcing new internet resource to protect children from online predators.

 

3:00 p.m.:  Meeting with NASA Administrator in Representative Cramer's office regarding Marshall Space Flight Center.

6:30 p.m.:  House holds two recorded votes on amendments to Defense Authorization legislation.  Final votes of the day.

Thursday: (Washington, D.C.)

 

8:00 a.m.:  Breakfast meeting of the House Anti-Terrorism Caucus.

 

9:00 a.m.: Washington Update Presentation to North Alabama Chambers of Commerce members visiting Washington.


10:00 a.m.: House convenes to continue debate on the Defense Authorization Bill.

11:30 a.m.: Meeting with Alabama transportation officials in Representative Cramer's office about the Memphis-Atlanta Highway.

12:30 p.m.: Members Only Briefing regarding Homeland Security and Capitol Security.

 

1:30 p.m.: House holds four recorded votes on amendments to Defense Athorization legislation.

2:00: Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee hearing with officials from the National Transportation Safety Board on airport safety.

 

5:15 p.m.: House holds recorded votes on six amendments to Defense Authorization legislation.

 

6:30 p.m.: Award Ceremony and Reception in the Capitol building recognizing Members that support Economic Development and Business initiatives.

 

12:00 a.m.: House holds recorded vote on amendments to the Defense Authorization Bill.  Final votes of the day

Friday: (Washington, D.C. & North Alabama)

 

10:00 a.m.: Meeting with veterans group from North Alabama in Representative Cramer's office regarding the VA budget.

 

11:00 a.m.:  Photo with constituents visiting Washington in Representative Cramer's office.

 

11:30 a.m.: Meeting with constituents in Congressman Cramer's office regarding North Alabama's drug court programs, methamphetamine prevention, and new law enforcement technologies.

 

12:15 p.m.:  House holds final vote of the week on final passage of the Defense Authorization Bill.

 

2:15 p.m. (e) - 3:15 p.m. (c):  Flight from Washington D.C. to Huntsville.

 

4:00 p.m.:  Joins officials from Madison County to dedicate new public library.

6:30 p.m.: Dinner reception announcing new industry locating in the North Alabama creating hundreds of new jobs.
